First off, I want to thank everyone for all the kind words and support from my last post about how hard it’s been on me moving away from home. So many of you reached out to me on social media, and I truly appreciate it.
As I said in that post, I want to do a What To Do In Las Vegas series. First up, Lake Mead! I have definitely been missing the water in Louisiana. One of my favorite things about living in Lake Charles the past 9 years (and Louisiana my whole life) was being on the lake and having access anytime I wanted. So when one of my new girlfriends texted saying they rented a pontoon boat at Lake Mead for Memorial Day, I was ALL in!
Lake Mead is just a short drive from Las Vegas, about 30-50 minutes depending where in Vegas you are. The water is so clear in comparison to the muddy waters of Louisiana I am used to. Lake Mead is the largest reservoir in the U.S. and provides water to Nevada, Arizona and California and is on the Colorado River. It’s beautiful to just drive by and the marinas are clean if you want to play there as well.
We rented the boat for only $300 for the entire day! Craziness! I’ve rented boats in Louisiana for more like $100 per hour – especially on holidays. From the marina, you can rent pontoon boats like we did, boats for skiing, tubing and wakeboarding, as well as wave runners.
There are many places to dock or anchor and enjoy the water. We found a large beach party and stayed there most of the day. People from all over were there. I, of course, met a girl from Louisiana who was from a small town about an hour away from where I grew up because it is such a small world here in Las Vegas. It truly is. Some of the first people I met here were from Louisiana and Texas 🙂
We all had a great time and I can hardly wait to go back again! Lake Mead offers hiking, camping, fishing, and beautiful views, so if you’re looking for something different to check out next time you’re in Vegas, definitely consider Lake Mead!
Thanks to all of our amazing soldiers that make days like Memorial Day and all days possible. How did you celebrate or support our troops this Memorial Day? Let me know in the comments! Hope you all had a safe Memorial Day weekend!
